2005 REMEMBRANCES

PAUL RICOEUR DIES AT THE AGE OF 92!

Ricouer's brand of Hermeneutics has often been the topic of debate at IAPL conferences! Teacher to many of us, Ricoeur's life and writings leaves an indelible mark on those committed to interpreting, understanding, seeking "meaning" in a broad spectrum of texts -- inter alia philosophical, literary, theological, legal, psychoanalytical, ethical, political, and intellectual...

2004 REMEMBRANCES

Jacques Derrida Dies - October 9, 2004 - IAPL mourns

A special "THANKS TO DERRIDA" plenary session will take place at IAPL 2005 on Saturday evening - June 4th at the Kaapeli Arts and Cultural Center in Helsinki. Reception sponsored by the French Cultural Center.

2003 REMEMBRANCES
The IAPL mourns the loss of Dominique Janicaud, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Nice (France), a dear friend and colleague, plenary speaker and subject of a special Close Encounter on his work at IAPL 2002. Dominique Janicaud died on August 18th, 2002 upon emerging from his habitual swim in Eze on the French Riviera. Among his many publications, he had just completed the massive two volume study Heidegger en France (Albin Michel, 2002). A session will at IAPL 2003 will focus on the "shadow of his thought."
We are also saddened by the passing of Teresa Brennan who was unable to recover from a hit and run car accident in Florida near Florida Atlantic University, where she was Professor. She died on February 3rd, 2003. IAPL members will remember the wonderful session on her writings with her responses held in Vico Equense for the January 2000 IAPL "Turnings" Conference. A special IAPL 2003 session, organized by Kelly Oliver, will be devoted to Teresa Brennan's Life and Work.
